Brenda Strafford Centre on Aging

The Brenda Strafford Centre On Aging, created in 2011, is a strategic research collaboration between the BSF and UCalgary with a focus on:

  • Coordinating and overseeing academic aging-related research activities on behalf of the BSF and UCalgary.
  • Serving as an administrative and collaborative hub for interdisciplinary aging research and educational programming.
  • Providing resources and proposing research that will assist with enhancing the health and wellness of older adults and informing public policy.

In 2020, the connection between the Centre and the BSF was enhanced when the Centre on Aging moved to its new base at Cambridge Manor, enabling researchers and students greater access to this dynamic research and learning environment within a continuing care site. Furthermore, in 2023, the BSF and UCalgary jointly announced a new agreement to enhance strategic collaboration through research and education facilitated by the Centre on Aging. The new agreement ensures a greater commitment and a more collaborative working relationship on mutually beneficial aging-related research and education conducted through the Centre on Aging.

Dr. Barrie Strafford Centre For Learning, Innovation & Quality

The Dr. Barrie Strafford Centre For Learning, Innovation & Quality, created in 2023, is a BSF Centre with a focus on:

  • Facilitating BSF learning initiatives that will optimize and develop a future-ready workforce.
  • Promoting advancements in quality measures and practices throughout the BSF.
  • Supporting initiatives that drive innovation and enhance the health, wellness, and care provided to the individuals the BSF serves.

Located together in a collaborative space at Cambridge Manor, the Brenda Strafford Centre on Aging works closely with the Dr. Barrie Strafford Centre for Learning, Innovation & Quality at the vanguard of where research meets practice.
